Bunny Hoopstar

Hooping for me is a relaxing experience of moving my body with creativity and flow. In my 24th year in the hoop I am drawn to exploring the subtle elements of activating energy and hoop dance with core spinal awareness. By focusing on moving the spine from the core and slowing down, I spiral into waves of physical and energetic movement that enhance connection to my body, my hoop, the music and the spirit of my performance. Over the past 13 years, hooping has been my full-time passion and career. I’m excited to develop my hoop practice so that it supports my body – and the bodies of my students – in sustainable, safe and dynamic ways. I also really love sustained spinning!

WORKSHOP:  Movement and Energy Flow

This workshop explores the 8 core movements of the spine both with and without your hoop. By activating the spine from the core, an increase in energy flow unlocks creative movement through your entire body and your hoop dance. Set to a luscious soundscape, this class will be a journey for the body and soul. We will focus on mostly “off-body” hoop movements using smaller hoops, which will be provided.

How we can add flair to simple waist hooping – feet, hands, hair, spinning – we’ll use it all. Bring a heavier hoop & prepare to sweat.

Jewelz A Hoopz

Jewelz Hanssens is Head Hoopologist at Jewelz A Hoopz
and founder of Hoopy Happenings – Australia’s first annual hula hooping retreat. A dream was to also create an event showcasing our teachers in & around Sydney and so “A Winter HAPPY HOOPenings” evolved.

Jewelz first met the hoop in 2006, in 2008 they travelled together and on that trip a strong bond was forged. That plastic circle has spun her all over the world as a student and a teacher. Jewelz and her hoops have taught hoops to all ages from 2yo – 85yo, at hula hoop retreats, pre-schools, primary & high school, after-school care & vacation care, libraries, women’s retreats, festivals, people with disabilities, those disadvantaged and social circus in Asia.

Jewelz combines hoop dance, “hooptales”, circus style hoops, hoop fitness and creative play! She spins regular hoops, square hoops (Squoops!) and even heart shaped hoops!

Hoopy Loopy Happiness is her tag line and that’s exactly what she likes to bring to you.

WORKSHOP: HOOPTATION

Jewelz developed Hooptation when she was getting bored with her physio exercises and so she “hoopafied” the exercises. She then infused it with her love of breath and yoga. For a long time Jewelz made these flow sequences for herself but now she loves to share them. We start with our breath, taking time to focus on full deep breaths. Using the hoop to guide our spinal movement to promote a healthy spine, moving in all directions. Bringing our awareness to our breath with simple movements. It is also a great internal massage! This is going to warm up for a full day of Hoopy Loopy Happiness!

WORKSHOP: HOOP CHOREOGRAPHY

There are many ways in which to develop choreography so in this workshop we will be working with a few techniques to help you create choreography with layers. Come with an open mind and explore to see where it can lead you.

Charlie J Circus

Circus gives me the platform to create many opportunities. From running festivals to coordinating end of year productions, self-directing school shows and creating a training school…well, the opportunities are endless.

I like putting a creative intention into my training giving it a purpose otherwise I tend to get bored! Starting out as a gymnast I naturally tumbled my way to Circus Monoxide in 2009. I then went on to study at Dell arte in Blue Lake California. Upon my return I started my own training school. I tour my own school shows 4 times a year and have launched my own outdoor performance company called Treetop Circus.

WORKSHOP: HOOPY Handstands ++

Who doesn’t want to learn to handstand, headstand and cartwheel?

Whatever level…bring your body & your hoop and we will make something with them both. If not we’ll at least get you up on your hands as the starting block to build the foundations up to incorporating both acrobatics & hooping together.
